IBM Think Pad laptop Windows 2000

Hi :)

I have an IBM laptop, I didn't know when I got the lap top that I should create a user account, and have run the laptop strictly as administrator.
When I discovered the error I tried to create a user account but lacked the knowledge to share all my programs etc. In the following days I completely messed up the system...
I have it running again after getting Tune Up Utilities 2006.
I think I really need to wipe off hte hard drive get more RAM and a good anti virus and maybe upgrade to Windows XP. I am still missing ASPNET files subset 009 have no idea what that is... and my battery stopped functioning about the same time as creating the user account... I think part of the problem was naming the user account Shell as shell is a part of the system...LOL : Dingy Shell

    Hi Shell -

First of all there is nothing wrong with using an account called Shell as far as I know. There are no system accounts by that name or other conflicts that I know of. You didnt really ask any specific question, and didnt post any specific error message and steps your taking to make it appear but.... if you are having problems with ASP .Net you might try reinstalling it before you nuke the box. On the other hadn there is nothing like a nice fresh system :)

      Hi thanks for responding
I think there is a section of the computer that has Shell as part of a command series...not sure but I'm really confused at this point.
When I started messing around and then deleted everything that has Shell as a file ext...thats where I really had trouble. So I took it back to a safe point in safe mode, which gave me the wrong desktop and missing files, probably the ones I deleted?
anyway I am thinking because I didnt write down everything I cant possibly explain it all, and it would be easier to re install or upgrade.
as for the ASP NET error

For best results in resolving this event, log on with a non-administrative account and search support.microsoft.com for "Troubleshooting Event 1202s".

Since I no longer have a non administrative account LOL how can I find it?

I also have this issue...I had to disable it as it kept wanting to reinstall the default display

As you can see these are all errors committed around the same time..are they connected? Are they a death grip?
or am I just way freaked out by the whole safe point thing?
LOL Please bear in mind I am a woman...who doesnt always think logically! :)
      Thanks Shell

Well, event log entries can sometimes be confusing. The ASP event simply says it could load a perf counter. If you are in dire need of the perf counter then you can probably ignore it. The other one is a driver failing to start. Again, if you are not concerned with the driver I wouldnt worry about it. If you are then make sure it is enable in Device Manager. I am not familiar with the philips decoder so Im not sure what it could be complaining about being missing. Personally I would look in Add\Remove Programs for a philips decoder or video related app and uninstall\reinstall.

I meant if you are NOT in need of the perf counter above...

what is a perf counter? apparently Im running without needing it...

The philips decoder I disabled as it kept wanting to relaunch or reinstall the smaller display.
Im running a ATI Mobility Display high color 16 1024 x 768 pixels and its fine for me...
So essentially I fixed it, and am panicked about the errors for naught..:)

But there is still the issue of creating a user account and getting correct configuration for security and program usage so I dont do all this again. Can you point me in the direction of instructions?
